If you don’t carry passion into sport -or in any job for that matter- you won’t succeed.”

~Phil Esposito

Welcome to the October Newsletter! Our iReady data is in and we have our work cut out for us to make up for lost time from quarter 4. The data is showing the need in both ELA and Math. To assist the teachers this year we are also incorporating LAFs and MAFs resources during the core ELA and Math. The work is rigorous in the beginning, but the students will make amazing growth throughout the year. I know the students will thrive on the new challenges they will be given.

Thank you to all families, friends, business partners and community members who supported our first fundraiser! Mrs. Harrington was able to raise over $3000 from the BOGO Krispy Kreme Cards. Those funds will help support incentives and classroom supplies for the school year. During the last week of October, we will have our annual Fall Book Fair. Students will be able to purchase books, posters or book marks at the Book Fair. Families will also be able to purchase books on-line. All Funds raised will go back to support Edison Park’s Media Center. Christmas is right around the corner and a book is a great gift to continue to love of reading for a child!

It is important for a child to read daily and listening to them read is a wonderful way to spend time with your child. Research shows students who develop a habit of reading each day will: develop more vocabulary, increase their attention span, better prepare them for school, lead to a lifelong love for books and encourage a thirst for knowledge.

My name is Emily Green and I am your new school counselor. For the last 8 years I have been an elementary school counselor in Collier County and I am so excited to be joining the amazing team here at Edison Park!

This year I will be visiting classes monthly for guidance lessons. We will work on various skills to help empower students to be successful in their academic and personal lives. During quarter 1, students in grades K-2 will work on listening skills, independent skills, and self-control. Students in grades 3-5 will learn about adjusting to change, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. All students will also have an opportunity to practice deep breathing and stretching as a form of self-regulation. I look forward to working with your child!
