“Without self-discipline, success is impossible, period.”

~Lou Holtz

Welcome to the first edition of the 2020-2021 EPCEA Newsletter. We are off to a great start this year implementing our COVID-19 safety plan with success. Students are focused and already working towards their personal goals. This year you will hear a lot of talk about iReady. iReady is a comprehensive assessment and instructional program that empowers educators with resources to help all students succeed. During the week of Sept. 8th- 11th all students in grades 1st-5th will take their first diagnostic assessment for ELA and Math. After the assessment, students will be able to work on their independent learning instructional path for ELA and Math. Each week all students will be required to work on their iReady for 45 minutes in both reading and math. Students are expected to achieve a minimum of 70% or better. Of course, we will aim for 100% success rate. The lessons are fun and interactive for the students. All students will be assessed two more times throughout the year to monitor their progress. Our goal at Edison Park is for all students to reach their stretch goal. If you have questions about the program you can learn more @ All staff will have on-going professional development on iReady to ensure they are using the data to help their students achieve success. I look forward to a wonderful and safe year with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school or send me an email. I will always get back to you within 24 hours.

Kindergarten is off to an amazing start learning about so many different and wonderful things. We started the school year off learning about rules, expectations and how to be a good citizen both in school and out of school. This quarter we are learning all about letters and sounds. It is so fun to know that when we put sounds together they make words! We are learning about parts of a book, characters, settings and what happens in the stories that we read. In math we are focusing on the numbers 0-10. We get to read, write and compare numbers, we also like to see how high we can count. In science we are learning about germs and how to stay healthy. We will also be focusing on some super fun and interesting units of learning such as Apples, Pumpkins, Living and Non-living things and so much more. We will begin working on iready and participating in center learning. Kindergarten students are really doing an awesome job being good citizens while learning both here at school and learning on their computers for Lee Home Connect! Good job, Kindergarten. Keep up the good work.

SAFETY & SECURITY NEWS     We are all adjusting well to our new school year! The students that are face to face and home connect were very happy to see each other again. Our classrooms and school have been redesigned/rearranged with the safety of all in mind. It is so wonderful to see and hear the quiet buzz of our students learning in our beautiful school once again!
