Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
November 1, 2020
“In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful
but gratefulness that makes us happy.”
Welcome to the November edition of the newsletter. It is amazing that we are in the second quarter! The teachers are diving into data and making needed changes to their lessons to meet the needs of all their students. I want to thank everyone who bought a book at the Book Fair for their child. It is important for a child to read daily and listening to them read is a wonderful way to spend time with your child. Research shows students who develop a habit of reading each day will: develop more vocabulary, increase their attention span, better prepare them for school, lead to a lifelong love for books and encourage a thirst for knowledge. The holidays are right around the corner and a book is wonderful gift for any child. As we approach the holiday season, I want to let you know how thankful I am for all the wonderful students and families we have at Edison Park!!!

First grade is in full swing learning our phonograms to become better readers every day! We are excited to start the Accelerated Reader program which will give us the opportunity to practice reading great books from our library every day. We are setting goals and expectations for ourselves with great anticipation of our success! In math we are continuing to sharpen our addition and subtraction skills by using several different problem-solving strategies. We are continuing our living and nonliving unit of study in science as we observe our very own caterpillars and cocoons anxiously awaiting our beautiful butterflies.
Amazing things are happening in first grade, whether our students are face-to-face or joining us via zoom from home! We are excited to be spending our days learning together!
