Our Media Center
The Edison Park Media Center provides information in a multitude of formats for students and teachers, in support of the elementary curriculum. We encourage a love of reading, through personal attention and the Accelerated Reader program. We strive to develop life-long information seeking skills in an environment conducive to learning.
Guided Independent Reading (Accelerated Reader) is reading practice and it accelerates reading growth for all students, regardless of reading ability. Teachers and students focus primarily on the average percent correct scored on AR Reading Practice Quizzes. The higher the average percent correct, the higher the reading gains! Increased reading practice time leads to greater reading growth when the reading practice is carefully guided. This is true for students of all ability levels in all grades.
The Media Center is open from 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Students may check out 3 books for a two-week period (kindergartners check out 1 book at a time). Parents may obtain their own library number and are encouraged to use the Media Center.
