Announcing The Ben Carson Foundation Scholarship
Dr. and Mrs. John Sheppard endowed Edison Park with a donation of $30,000 for college scholarships. Each year the scholarship recipient will be sent a letter reporting how much their scholarship has grown. Recipients can re-apply up to 5 more times throughout middle and high school.
Each year a committee of teachers and the principal will select 3 scholars from 4th or 5th grade who demonstrate academic excellence and a strong commitment to their community. The 3 scholars send an application with an essay to the Carson Foundation in Maryland. One student is selected by the Carson Foundation to receive a $1,000 scholarship to be invested to their college fund.
The winner is honored at a banquet with winners from other schools. Recipients will receive a gold medal, money held in a scholarship fund and their name added to trophy to be kept at Edison Park. To be a Carson Scholar is an amazing honor.
